A: You are to stop taking blood thinners, such as Coumadin, Plavix, Aspirin, etc. You must contact your doctor who prescribes this medication for instructions on how to regulate stopping these medications for your procedure. Stopping these blood thinners are based on the decision of the physician that you see at our office. All other medication can be continued until the day of the procedure.
A: When speaking of the "referral" on the mailed out forms, it is not talking about PHYSICIAN referrals; it is based on INSURANCE referrals. We have a precertification department here in our office that will call on all scheduled procedure appointments. If there are any questions/concerns, our precertification department will contact you. Also, note that we DO NOT cancel your appointment if the agreement to pay is not sent back before the procedure date.
A: Click here for a form containing examples of what is a clear liquid diet. Remember, a clear liquid diet is used only for post-operation and for short periods of time during acute illnesses or for diagnostic procedures. Again, it should NOT be used for a prolonged period.
A: Yes.
A: A clear liquid is considered anything that when you hold the liquid up to the light and you can see through it is clear. Examples of the recommended clear liquids are on the clear liquid diet form.
A: Caffeinated coffees and teas are fine. However, you should limit the amount of caffeinated beverages you consume. These caffeinated beverages cause dehydration.
A: The laxative preparation does affect everyone differently. Most likely, you will not start having bowel movements instantly. However, it is recommended that you stay close to home shortly after you begin the laxative preparation.
A: Demerol and Versed.
A: Plan to be at our Endoscopy center two to three hours between registration and recovery. The procedure itself will last for about 15 to 30 minutes.
