About Me

Lawrence J. Born, M.D., F.A.C.P., is an active staff member in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He has performed more than 30,000 endoscopies. Dr. Born received his medical degree from Indiana University and trained in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the Liver Study Unit in Omaha. Prior to his current position, he was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Born is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. His research interests have ranged from the ubiquitin proteolytic system to endoscopy and colorectal cancer, authoring numerous scientific manuscripts and abstracts. Dr. Born has been funded in the past by the National Institutes of Health and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has served on several university and hospital committees including Medical Director of the Digestive Health Center at St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis. On a personal level, Dr. Born has been involved from the beginning in the Nobel Peace Prize nominated partnership between Moi University and Indiana University for the care of patients in Kenya. He set up an endoscopy suite and also initiated an anti-malaria program that is distributing 40,000 bed nets in west Kenya. Also, Dr. Born has coached numerous city and state champion runners and is a past USA Track and Field Indiana Masters Champion.
